The Snow Peak x Tokyo Design Studio New Balance Concept 2 sandal will be available at Snow Peak Portland, Snow Peak New York, and online on July 2nd at 10am PT. Read on to learn more about the latest iteration of Snow Peak's ongoing collaboration with New Balance.
The Niobium concept shoes by Tokyo Design Studio New Balance (TDS) are based on the concepts of utility and transformation. Following last year's release of the Niobium boot, the Niobium Concept 2 is the ultimate two-way outdoor sandal, featuring the sole unit from New Balance's best-selling trail running shoe, Fresh Foam Hierro, and a detachable heel strap that enables the transition from sandals to mules.
With its asymmetrical, rugged form, the sole unit improves stability and shock absorption, while the Fresh Foam X provides flexibility through a honeycomb structure of cells of varying sizes. The addition of a Vibram® Mega Grip outsole, which boasts exceptional durability and grip, provides outstanding traction — even on rough roads.
The collaboration is inspired by Snow Peak's Home⇄Camp approach, with the process of walking from the paved road (home) to the field (camp), inspiring the adoption of an asphalt black and olive green colorway. In addition, the upper has been updated with a breathable mesh material, while the strap and toes are made from highly durable synthetic leather.
The Fidlock magnet buckle allows for easy removal, even in the campground. High-brightness reflectors on the heel and toes enhance visibility and safety after dark.
