Take a closer look at our latest collaboration with New Balance Tokyo Design Studio. Our shared commitment to lasting quality and timeless design produced the ultimate snow boots TDS Niobium Concept 3 (N_C3) and accompanying apparel capsule.
Footwear
Like the two previous capsules in 2020 and 2021, the TDS Niobium Concept 3 is named for the element Nb (also symbolizing New Balance). The silvery white metal features a high melting point and can be processed to shine in seven beautiful colors. Each iteration expresses the beauty and variability of Niobium.
The N_C3 uses a sole inspired by the New Balance MT580, which gained popularity as a trail running model in the 1990s. The boots feature a flat sole shape with a wide landing area, and use ROLLBAR, a lightweight and strong graphite material for increased stability in the midsole arch. This design reduces overpronation and reduces shock to the entire foot. The Vibram® outsole enhances durability and grip on wet surfaces. The boot’s upper has a double structure: an outer shell made of waterproof and breathable material eVent, and an inner boot made of PRIMALOFT®, a lightweight insulation with excellent heat retention and water repellency.
Remove the inner boots from outer shell to wear as room shoes inside and outside your tent during winter camping. The N_C3 is compatible with snowshoes by passing a rope through the loop on the outer shell and the protrusion on the heel.
Taking inspiration from the silver snow field, the outer shell of the boots is finished with a white and light gray gradation, and the inner boots feature original printed textiles modeled after the cold winter sky. The graphic includes an excerpt from Japanese poet and fairytale writer Kenji Miyazawa's poem ``Ame Nimo Makezu'', arranged to stoically express the majesty of nature and the introspective side of humanity.
Apparel Capsule
The apparel capsule features two garments: a down jacket and down vest. The vest is made of recycled ripstop nylon with a durable water-repellent finish. The down jacket has one pocket on the chest and two zippered pockets on waist. It’s equipped with an adjustable belt with a FIDLOCK® magnet buckle.
The down vest is a pullover style that covers the chest. It features adjustable belts, a flap pocket on the front, and FIDLOCK® on both the buckle and button. Both items are insulated with recycled down from the Green Down Project and treated with a water-repellent finish.
Like the N_C3, the apparel prints and textiles take inspiration from winter and snowfield imagery, and incorporate the poem “Ame Nimo Makezu.”
